October 1 is the memorial of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church
Born in Alecon, France, St. Therese 91873-1897) entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux at the age of fifteen. Known as the Little Flower of Jesus, she was known for her humility and complete abandonment to God. Her writings, which were undertaken at the behest of her superior and published posthumously, reveal in their simplicity a profundity of spiritual progress and understanding. She is a Doctor of the Church.
